The Prime Minister of Lebanon Tammam Salam received Iran’s Chairman of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi and his accompanying delegation on Friday.
Noting Iran's vital role in the region, he asserted “due to its superior position in the region and interest in in stability and security in Lebanon, we call for Iran’s help in election of our new president.”
Tammam Salam deemed selection of the new president as its country’s top priority; “The current situation in Lebanon and lack of president might lead to greater trouble in the country; therefore, internal as well as external political agencies must help to elect a new president,” he asserted.
Referring to the visits paied by Iranian and Lebanese officials to the two countries, Salam marked them as a sign of friendly relations.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, for his part, congratulated on Lebanon’s security achievements and explained the situation in Syria describing his talks with the Syrian official particularly with Bashar al-Asad.
The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Fathali was also attending the meeting.
